Time Machine
"Time Machine" takes place in a been-there-forever traditional convenience store rarely found anymore in Taiwan. The store owner, Auntie Chiou is a lesbian who's been waiting for her forbidden lover for 40 years.
Director Statement
Behind the fashion, is the social reality, a poignant and moving story, and the cultural connotation of the land. Behind the symbol of "old convenience store" in this season's clothing, lies a common nostalgic memory of the bygone era. It is here, a sad and beautiful secret awaits, a story of the tabooed same-sex love of that time which is the reflection of the integration and collision between the avant-garde and the tradition of the designer’s own internal conflicts.
When the auntie's long wait finally came to the most important last day, the fast editing of fashionable young people passing through the door showed fragments of her emotions. The rhythm of the rushing also formed a sharp contrast with the auntie's almost foolish stillness in waiting. The Clothes, in the end, became the soul imprint of the story, rather than just a simple fashion show.
Ultimately, I believe that fashion is intimately related to people, love and the times that weaved us all together.
