Barnsdall Olive Wood Workshop

In June 2021, 400 olive trees at Barnsdall Art Park were carefully pruned by Mariposa Landscapes, Inc. That special effort was funded with a $25,000 grant from the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation and supervised by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and the Los Angeles Parks Foundation.

Instead of grinding all of the pruned tree branches into wood chips, every piece larger than 2 inches in diameter was saved. The Barnsdall Olive Wood Workshop was established by the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation to transform those olive wood logs into original objects created by a group of renowned Los Angeles artists, designers, architects, and landscape architects.

Those unique items will be displayed in a group exhibition at the contemporary art gallery, Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, located at 1110 Mateo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021, which will be on view from November 13 to December 4, 2021.

Beginning November 13, the public may view the exhibition during the gallery’s normal business hours. Tuesday – Friday: 11 am – 6 pm and Saturday 10 am – 6 pm.

A public opening reception will be held at Luis De Jesus Los Angeles on November 13 from 3 pm to 7 pm.

The exhibited olive wood objects will also be sold via an online fundraising auction. The net profit from each acquired piece will be divided between the creator of that item and the Barnsdall Olive Grove Fund.

We hope you will join the Barnsdall Olive Wood Workshop Collectors Circle by purchasing an object created by this year’s group of extraordinary participants.
