Have you always wanted to understand and possibly even make perfume, without ever really knowing what it is, where to start, and how to learn? The Institute for Art and Olfaction is here to help with our new monthly Perfume 101 classes. In these orientation sessions, Timothy Van Ausdal goes over the very basics of the field of perfumery: A perfect class for olfactive adventurers, curious minds, and budding scent enthusiasts who need a little boost.
Tim leads participants on an aromatic journey covering the basics of scent literacy, and a glimpse into how perfume is made.
As a group, the class will:
+ Explore fragrance families and classifications, through examples
+ Get the how-to on working with a scale
+ Learn about making lab solutions
+ Spend some time smelling (and discussing) a curated selection of molecules
+ Spend some time making a group blend, all under Tim's watchful eyes
Participants will leave with the basic knowledge - and the hands-on tools - they need to start a journey down the rabbit hole of making scent, as well as a more considered understanding of what they encounter at the fragrance counter.
